What is moblf?

moblf, stands for Mobile Life. It is a service through which you can interact with various web services using SMS text message. The goal of moblf is to make it easy for you to access the various web services over your mobile, using SMS / Text Message.

What do I need to access moblf?

To access web services over moblf, you must have a Twitter account. You should also have an account with the web service you would like to interact with.

Can I use moblf over other applications like gtalk?

Yes. moblf operates through a Twitter account. Therefore, you can use moblf through Twitter and other Twitter applications like gtalk, Twhirl, Twitterrific, etc.

What all web services can I interact with through moblf?

Currently you can interact with FriendFeed over moblf. However we would be adding more web services to our list. If you would like to suggest adding a web service to moblf, please email us at sugg@moblf.com or send an SMS text message using the moblf command sugg.

Why do I need moblf to view what I can see on FriendFeed?
-
moblf enables you to access FriendFeed from wherever you are, over SMS text message. You don’t need to depend on internet access anymore!
You can retrieve your messages on FriendFeed and view it directly on your mobile, or on other applications like Twitter, gtalk, Twhirl, etc. Through moblf you can view messages from a specific user or a specific web service or both.

Register your Twitter username by following step-1 from the Join page. Next register your FriendFeed account by following step-3 from the Join page. Now you can start interacting with FriendFeed by using any of the listed moblf commands.

What is a FriendFeed remote key?

A FriendFeed remote key is a kind of password that allows third party applications like moblf connect with your FriendFeed account. There are limits to what can be done using a remote key and therefore it is a lot safer than giving your password.
By giving us your FriendFeed username and remote key, you are letting FriendFeed know that you have given moblf permission to interact with your FriendFeed account.

There are two ways of accessing moblf:

Register to get your FriendFeed updates
Command: D moblf ffstart <FriendFeed user name>, <FriendFeed remote key>

Add a direct message to FriendFeed
Command: D moblf ffsend <Message>
This posts a message directly over FriendFeed.

Get messages from FriendFeed
Command: D moblf ffget
This returns the first 5 messages on FriendFeed. Each message is in the form an SMS text message. Therefore, you will receive 5 SMS / Text Messages as an output of this command.

Get next 5 messages from FriendFeed
Command: D moblf ffgetn
This command returns the next set of 5 messages. However you need to send this command within 10 minutes of sending FFGET, otherwise FFGETN will return the same messages as FFGET.

Get FriendFeed updates from a particular friend
Command: D moblf ffgetus <FriendFeed username>
This returns 5 messages from the specific user.

Get FriendFeed updates from a particular service from a particular friend
Command: D moblf ffgetus <FriendFeed username>, <Name of web service>
This returns 5 messages from the specific user on that specific web service.

This returns a list of all the SMS text message commands that can be used to interact with FriendFeed over moblf.

This command is used to send a direct feedback or suggestion to moblf.

This command stops all future messages from moblf. You can re-start moblf service by sending
d moblf ffstart <FriendFeed user name>, <FriendFeed remote key>

Will I get updates from FriendFeed instantly?

Almost instantly. Currently, we fetch updates from FriendFeed every two minutes, therefore you may have to wait upto a maximum of 2 minutes.

Click on http://twitter.com/account/notifications and uncheck the tab related to ‘direct text emails’.

Why I am not getting SMS replies from moblf?
-
moblf interacts with you through Twitter. For all countries outside USA, Twitter has set a weekly limit of 250 SMS text messages. The week is measured from Sunday to Sunday. So if you have met your limit of 250 SMS / Text Message replies, you will not get messages till the start of the next week. However there is no limit on receiving replies on the Twitter website and all other applications like gtalk, Twhirl, etc
